Dr. Carolyn Reid

Medical Doctor

Carolyn is a medical doctor and graduated from Imperial College, London in 1999. After completing post-graduate training in general adult medicine, followed by studies in tropical medicine, she spent two years working with Medécins sans Frontières, on the Thai-Myanmar border and then in Ethiopia. During this time she became particularly interested in HIV, becoming passionate about seeing high-quality, life-changing care made available even in resource-limited settings. Returning to the UK she obtained a Masters in Public Health for Developing Countries, before further specialist work and training in genitourinary medicine and HIV .

In 2010 she and her husband moved to central Asia where they lived for 3 years. In 2013 Carolyn became a member of SIM and lived and worked in Francophone west Africa for over 6 years, with a particular interest in prison medicine. She and her husband returned to the UK in 2019 and Carolyn now combines a role as SIM’s International Health Coordinator with medical consultancy for VSO. She has recently completed further training in Travel Health and joined the Thrive team in 2021. She is passionate about quality, holistic healthcare in challenging contexts, as well as excellent preparation and care for cross-cultural workers from across the globe. She enjoys travel, where this is possible, and running.
